From Christopher Haigh (1961-1968)

Hi Kynastonians,

I just found this site by accident. I was at Kynaston from 1961 to 68. I was a prefect and house captain for Newton. I now live in San Francisco, though before the pandemic I used to come to England twice a year or so.

It was a real pleasure to see pictures of the various teachers, Fred Green, Mr. Jenkins, Mr. Barrett, and Mr. Stubbs. I did not see any pictures of Mr. Margate or Mr. Phillips, the teacher who worked on the school plays. And I’m sorry not to see any pictures of my favorite history teacher “Jim” (I cannot remember his last name), that man could throw a piece of chalk or in some cases a board duster with unerring accuracy!

I hope that everyone is doing well.

Cheers.

Jim Preston was the teacher with the unerring aim with chalk or board duster. He was also quite good at poking sleepy pupils with his umbrella!
